LAS VEGAS, NV, April 20, 2010-Internationally-acclaimed landscape photographer Peter Lik, was awarded a Top Ten prize from The North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) for his work, "Pele's Whisper." The moonlight shot of the Kilauea Volcano, on Kalapana, the Big Island of Hawaii, also received the distinction of being the first image to ever be featured as a wrap cover (front and back) for the association's annual Expressions publication. Lik collected NANPA awards for "Ocean Fire" (Top 100) and "Turning Time" (Top 250), in addition to "Pele's Whisper."

"Pele, the goddess of fire in Hawaiian folklore, is a volatile and at times vindictive goddess. Pele took pleasure in her power to both destroy the land and also create it. You can visualize her fair profile in the upper left. It's as if she is blowing, or whispering, into the ocean, causing the steam to part on the surface of the water below," said Peter Lik when asked to describe the scene.
Expressions is an annual publication that highlights the top 250 photographs from the NANPA Member Showcase competition, held each year. It displays the very best photographs selected from thousands of submissions by a jury panel of industry professionals.

Peter Lik is one of the world's most innovative, prolific, and awarded living artists. Renowned for his signature panoramic images and repertoire of limited editions, produced over a 25-year period, Peter has helped to define fine art photography. Peter Lik's photography is showcased in 13 galleries across the country, from Hawaii to New York, as well as in Australia. His images are owned by fine art collectors and a myriad of luminaries from around the globe.

Peter is the only recipient of the Master of Photography Award in both the U.S. and Australia. His published fine art books include Spirit of America, Maui: Hawaiian Paradise, Australia, Las Vegas and Beyond and his prized Peter Lik 25th Anniversary Book.

I have to say "Congratulations Mr. Peter Lik"...I will have to one day shake your hand and ask you to sign a copy of "NANPA Expressions 2010" for me. Last December 2008...I was fortunate to walk by the Peter Lik Studio in Lahaina, Maui...in interest, I walk around in his studio and was quite intrigued by his work, ESPECIALLY "Pele's Whisper". Right then and there, I knew I had to buy one...right now, I can say I am proud to be an owner of one of Peter Lik's masterpieces...you can only imagine which one.

Keep up the great work Peter! Look forward to seeing more! Congratulations!

Sincerely,
Jason

Well Pete, Thats a WRAP ! Another first, and a historical one at that , Congratulations !

I love your images but I have to say this one in particular I find to be mesmerizing . . . When I first saw it I remember uttering the words WICKED and then just continued to let it draw me in . . . Hearing the story behind in it in your video totally blew me away as what happened to the ledge you were standing on . . . I hope one day to be able to stand in front of the an original print and just feel its power !! Thank You and Congratulations
